Singapore as a hub for clinical trials

Singapore has taken an active role in developing as a hub for life sciences in the region. Participation in clinical trials brings Singapore a step closer to achieving it’s vision of establishing world-class capabilities across the whole life science value chain.

There are extensive rules and guidelines governing trial design; investigator qualifications and training; and obtaining informed consent in order to ensure clinical trials are conducted ethically. Submissions for approval must be made in parallel to two separate authorities, namely the Health Sciences Authority and the Institutional Review Board or Ethics Committee (IRB/EC) before a clinical trial may be started in Singapore. An IRB/EC is a committee of individuals comprising experts and laypersons, who will review the proposed research studies with the aim to safeguard the rights, safety and well-being of all trial subjects.
